Formulation Development
Nasal Drug Delivery Systems
Drug delivery through the nose offers the advantage of a comparatively rapid onset of action that is essential for the treatment of e.g. pain relief, erectile dysfunction or nausea. In comparison to oral drug delivery systems a higher bioavailability of peptide drugs in particular by utilizing the thiomer-technology can be achieved. ThioMatrix is well versed in the design and development of liquid, semisolid and solid nasal drug delivery systems. The development includes:
-
orientating permeation studies on nasal membranes
-
evaluations of the stability of the drug on the nasal mucosa towards membrane bound enzymes
-
orientating toxicity studies (cytotoxicity studies; ciliary beat frequency studies; histological examinations; etc.)
-
optimisation of the delivery system
-
storage stability studies
-
in vivo pharmacokinetic studies in various animal species
-
orientating studies in humans
